Pakistan Is Now a Top 10 Exporter of Truck and Bus Tyres

In just three months, Pakistan exported over 111 thousand tyres to the USA. This is 76% more than the same period last year. It is important for the nation’s factories and economy.

Quite a few years ago, there was no mention of Pakistani tyres in global markets. Today, Pak is an emerging exporter of truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres to the USA and Brazil, both in terms of rank. This is a genuine improvement.

Truck and bus tyres are far from an ordinary product. They must conform to high standards of safety and quality. It is difficult to sell them in the U.S. (the world’s largest tyre market). This is what Pakistan is doing now.

 The Numbers are very Simple

During the first quarter of 2025, Pakistan exported 111,000 TBR tyres to America. It was 63,517 a year ago at this time. That is a jump of 76%.

This is a summary of the comparison.

Time Period Tyres Sent to US
Q1 2024 63,517 units
Q1 2025 111,973 units

In fact, Pakistan is now ranked as the 10th largest supplier of these tyres to the USA. At $122 per tyre, the cost compares favorably and is at a reasonable price. More remarkably, Pakistan saw its exports increase, but overall US tyre imports ticked down slightly. This means Pakistani tyres are siphoning market share from others.

Brazil is also buying a lot of Pakistani TBR tyres. So, the name of Pakistan is now familiar in both North and South America.

One Company is leading the Charge

Service Long March Tyres Limited (SLM) is the prime promoter of this success. This is a joint venture between the Servis Group of Pakistan and the Chaoyang Long March Tyre Company of China. SLM started making tyres in 2022. It has successfully become the biggest tyre manufacturer and exporter in Pakistan in four years.

SLM is now exporting almost 40% of its truck and bus tyres. Pakistan exports to customers in the U.S., Brazil, South Africa, and Egypt. One such advantage that the company has over other producers is the use of Chinese technology to maintain low costs.

SLM has made these goals.

Metric Number
Tyres made per year now 1.6 million
Planned by July 2026 2.0 million
Planned by June 2027 2.2 million
Share of Pakistan’s market 58%

The company is operating at almost 99% capacity in all its factories. SLM is also planning to sell shares on the Pakistan Stock Exchange to raise more money for growth.

Why Do Global Buyers Choose Pakistani Tyres?

Three main reasons.

First, cost. The Pakistani tyres are cost-effective. Their average price of $122 put them among the lowest-priced of the top 10 exporters.

Second, quality. SLM holds certifications to sell in the US and Brazil. Just to access those markets, one has to pass a solid assessment. Pakistan passed.

Third, opportunity. Extra Tariffs placed on Chinese tyres by the US. Investigating Chinese tyre companies is also something that Europe wants to do.

Hence, customers are searching for other nations to purchase from. Pakistan is filling that gap using Chinese technology but without the trade penalties.

Why This Matters for Pakistan?

This is not simply about tyres. It is about how Pakistan can do it.

New factories are operating. The engineers are developing the latest skills. There is a building of the supply chains. Most importantly, foreign dollars are flowing into the country, as Pakistan produces something the world demands.

The demand for truck and bus tyres in Pakistan is enormous, which is around 1.7 million units per year. Another 7 million passenger car tyres are needed. The vast majority of this demand was satisfied by imports. Now, local factories are beginning to substitute for those imports in order to save foreign exchange.

There is a great distance yet to cover, however. Despite accounting for 58% market share in the local TBR market, SLM only responds to approximately 10% of demand overall. The balance is from imports or unofficial sources.

 What Comes Next?

Next, SLM plans to begin manufacturing passenger car tyres. It also aims to increase its annual exports to $100 million by 2027. Otherwise, Pakistan’s tyre companies can be the backbone of the economy.

The achievement is obvious, at the moment. Pakistan ranks amongst the top 10 countries in the world. It’s no mere figure. It only shows that if Pakistan invests and adopts the right technology, it can compete with the best.
