Geely SUVs Pakistan launch plans are officially moving forward as the Chinese automaker prepares to introduce three new SUV models through a local partnership. Geely is getting ready to introduce three SUV models under a new local brand alliance, with all three trucks targeting electric propulsion.
Who’s Bringing Geely to Pakistan?
Geely will have Bestway Automotive Private Limited (BAL) as its dealer and official distributor in Pakistan. This was revealed by Muhammad Irfan Anwar Sheikh, Group Managing Director, non banking businesses of Bestway Group at a media interaction in Lahore on September 15.
BAL will take in the cars as Completely Built Units or CBUs, meaning they will be pre-assembled in China before being imported.
Geely SUVs Pakistan Launch: Three New Models
There are two electric vehicles and one hybrid. The Geely EX2 is a compact electric hatchback that is expected to become China’s top-selling car in 2025, while the EX5 is a premium all electric SUV and a plug-in hybrid SUV, the Starray EM-i, is a compact vehicle.
The Starray EM-i has one outstanding point to its credit. It also has a Guiness record for the smallest fuel consumption of a PHEV SUV, averaging 3.83 liters per 100km through a 1056km test drive. Its exterior design is practically the same as the electric EX5, but it uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine as well as an 18.4kWh battery and an electric motor.
Why Does the Starray Matters Competitively?
Based on the NEDC test results, it boasts a 105km electric-only range which is marginally higher than the Haval H6 PHEV which said 100km and the Tiggo 8 PHEV which claimed 90km. That range equivalent can be a significant differentiator for buyers “cross shopping” this segment.
Local Assembly Is Coming Too
This is not a launch that is important only. Bestway Automotive currently holds an existing CKD plant and aims to leverage it on the ground in Pakistan to produce Geely brands also in the region. The Three-SUV CBU launch is Geley’s first step, with plans to expand the line on to local assembly to come.
What’s Still Unknown
Exact prices and launch dates for each model haven’t been confirmed yet. Bookings should begin before the end of 2026 and prices are likely to be revealed nearer to when the ship makes its debut.
The importation of the initial units will result in the units being priced higher than initially thought due to exchange rates, import duties, and taxes. Charging infrastructure is also a serious issue, although the hybrid flexibility of the Starray is likely to make it less dependent on public charging.
