Govt Warns Petrol Pumps Over Fuel Subsidy: Licences Could Be Cancelled

Govt Warns Petrol Pumps Over Fuel Subsidy: Licences Could Be Cancelled

If you are subscribed to the government’s fuel subsidy and a petrol pump denies your service, the government states that the pump can lose its licence. The warning was given this week by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Here’s what he ordered, and what registered drivers need to know.

What mandate did the Prime Minister give?

The PM, during the review meeting on Thursday, asked the authorities to revoke the licences of petrol pumps that do not dispense subsidised fuel to registered beneficiaries under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Programme. He asked officials to ensure that there would be no obstacles for those who have registered to receive the subsidy. In another recent interview, this person also mentioned the pumps it was possible to be taught a lesson for when they offend.

How many people are registered?

About 15.52 million citizens have registered for the programme. It checks and authenticates beneficiaries and manages the subsidy for the price at petrol stations, according to the government.

How Much Has the Programme Delivered?

Officials said 63.15 million subsidy tokens are issued and approximately 59.45 million of the tokens have been redeemed. Since November 4, 2026, the amount paid to beneficiaries so far was Rs 28.6 billion.

Why is the Government warning now?

So if a pump does not accept the relief it’s not going to help. The government has reportedly introduced the programme on September 13, following a petrol price hike during tensions in the Middle East. One report says petroleum dealers initially resisted the plan over how they would be repaid. The Prime Minister also had it reported that he was told to take action against pumps that didn’t pass price cuts on to consumers.

Who Can Get Help if a Pump Refuses?

The meeting was informed that the government has established individual call centres for consumers and petrol pump operators. They give information and deal with complaints or technical or administrative issues with the scheme.

How Much Is the Subsidy, and How Long Does It Last?

According to one report the subsidy is at Rs 100 per litre for low and middle income families. Check the latest eligibility criteria and the rate on the official programme channels prior to using the rate. The government is looking to keep the scheme running through the end of December 2026.

Conclusion

The warning indicates the government takes the roll-out of the subsidy seriously. If you are registered, you should be able to redeem your token. If denied, defend it via the official lines.
