Luxeed RX electric SUV with Ferrari-like styling and high-performance design

The Luxeed RX is Chery’s new high-performance SUV resembling a Ferrari

Chery’s luxury EV brand Luxeed has opened pre-orders for the RX electric SUV. Chery and Huawei developed the model under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA). The model has attracted attention for its Ferrari-like styling and competitive electric performance figures.

Electric SUV Design Comparison Isn’t Subtle

Luxeed markets the RX as an “FUV,” or Fashion Utility Vehicle. Ferrari uses a similar FUV label for the Purosangue. That’s not a coincidence. The design of the Purosangue’s silhouette shows the genius of Chery’s design team and the reason that it looks like a Ferrari.

The numbers back up the visual impression. The RX measures 5,020 mm long and 2,007 mm wide. Its height drops to 1,585 mm in the lower setting. The RX has a 3,000 mm wheelbase. Its proportions are comparable to the Xiaomi YU7 and Voyah Passion S.

A Genuine Design Controversy

In June 2026, Luxeed chief designer Zhao Changjiang posted about the RX on Weibo. He claimed a “former chief designer of Ferrari” created the vehicle. Ferrari’s China PR director disputed the claim. He also asked Luxeed to identify the designer. Later reports identified Werner Gruber as the designer. However, he reportedly served in a senior Ferrari role rather than as chief designer.

Luxeed RX Electric SUV Performance and Range

The design debate will likely continue. However, the Luxeed RX electric SUV also offers competitive performance. Reportedly, the engine will be offered in two sizes: 372 hp from a single rear motor, and 586 hp (437 kW) with a new 160 kW integrated front motor. The top claimed range with the China Light-vehicle test cycle is 529 miles. The car is equipped with four LiDAR sensors for safety, and it is built using electromagnetic thermal-control die casting.

Development has begun in Chery’s Wuhu, Anhui Province plant, and pre-production verification was completed ahead of Wednesday’s pre-ordering launch.

Electric SUV Pricing: The Luxeed RX Advantage

New Ferrari Purosangue begins at more than $400,000. Early pricing data for the Luxeed RX suggests it will cost some blistering RMB 253,500 (slightly over $37,000) but nowhere near luxury. That is the entire reason the car exists, because they’re being sold 10x cheaper to the people who can not afford a Ferrari but like the design of it.

The $37K number is quite an early one, and the final battery configuration hasn’t been finalized yet in advance of the pre-orders being open on Aug. 20.

Conclusion

The Luxeed RX electric SUV will be available for pre-order in China from August 20, 2026, with final pricing and battery capacity expected soon. Its combination of performance, range, advanced technology, and Ferrari-like styling could determine how successfully it competes in China’s increasingly crowded EV market.
