The Petrol Subsidy Scheme Registration process in Pakistan has become easier as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed authorities to provide free SMS registration for citizens.
What Did the PM Order for Petrol Subsidy Registration?
The Prime Minister gave this instruction during a top-level conference. The meeting discussed the PM Special Relief Scheme for motorcycles, rickshaws, and vehicles up to 800cc. The scheme aimed to ease the cost of petrol for poor and middle-class citizens amid the Gulf crisis.
The Prime Minister ordered a nationwide awareness campaign. The campaign will use print, electronic, digital, and social media to inform eligible citizens.
Early Numbers Show Strong Uptake
Over 600,000 text messages were received in the Islamabad region alone by Monday afternoon. Of the total applications received, 42,933 were successful for registration. It’s a good beginning for a brand-new scheme.
How Does the Petrol Subsidy Registration Process Work?
Applicants need to provide their CNIC number and vehicle number plate. They must also submit their province of registration and vehicle registration date. If you want to register, then send the details to 9771 with the province code as well. Dates should be added with no spaces or symbols.
After signing up, users text “TOK” to 9771 to obtain a fuel token prior to visiting a petrol pump. Present a token at the pump to receive a Rs. 100 per litre discount.
Petrol Subsidy Scheme Rollout Timeline
The Petrol Subsidy Scheme Registration started in Islamabad on the night of September 14th and 15th. The rest of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, will get relief on the night from September 16 to 17.
The Prime Minister has also instructed Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner, Inspector General, and administration officials to remain active in the field to ensure that the citizens complete their registration. The same effort is taking place throughout the country by public representatives and volunteers.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
The government has also said that never provide any personal information other than the registration SMS to anyone claiming to help with the CNIC registration, and that no registration fee is being charged, as the registration SMS is free.
